    Life > Game

    By Cameron Sorden | October 12, 2008

I looked at my blog yesterday and realized I hadn’t made a post in almost two weeks. As someone who did a daily post (sometimes multiple daily posts) all through my last year of college, it’s a little weird to go that long without some input. It’s not that I don’t have stuff to say — it’s more that there’s a lot going on right now in the world, ya know?

I’ve been reading more and more of the political and economics blogs lately, which has pushed aside a lot of my usual reading. I just have a hard time caring about WoW and Warhammer or whether real money transactions are a good or bad thing when U.S. financial markets are freezing up and the presidential race is turning really ugly and petty.

I’ve also been feeling a lot of what Michael is talking aboutWarhammer just isn’t doing it for me, and my poor WoW mage is stuck at 66. My desktop hasn’t been fired up in over a week. It’s sad, because gaming and blogging are both things that I really enjoy doing, and lately I just haven’t been doing either. There are enough highly-anticipated new titles coming out soon that hopefully my interest gets rekindled (it almost assuredly will be), but for now I’m kind of hands-off on the whole gaming world.

I am working my way slowly through FFIV on the DS (in 3D!), and I’m trying out D&D 4th Edition this weekend with some college buddies over Teamspeak using OpenRPG, so hopefully I can get back into the swing of gaming more. There’s just so much going on in the real world to worry about that it’s tough.

    I miss the 90s.

A few years back my old college crew got together and tried to play some D&D and it ended up being fun but a non serious event. We had pretty much outgrown the sitting around a table and being concerned about characters. We just goofed off and laughed the whole time. I think one guy just attacked everything he could find. lol

I hope your endeaver ends up better.

      Besides, I miss the 80’s.

Everyone misses the ’80s, even those who were not yet born then.

After having avoided WoW in favor of WAR, I’m looking forward to toying around with patch 3.0.2. I’m hoping the next couple weeks help me decide which character I’ll be running to 80 with first. Unless I throw it all out a stick to Rock Band 2 full time. Plastic guitars FTW!

Cameron, I’m finding more and more that in the grand scheme of things MMOs and video games are a fleeting distraction. Certainly the financial chaos in our country and the growing tension in the world has really made me think about my real priorities: my health, my family and my country.

It’s ok to take a break and focus on the best MMO ever made — real life.

There’s always the option of creating other blogs for your political/economic interests. :)
