Headed to Seattle - Permanently!
By Cameron Sorden | June 25, 2008
I’ve been meaning to do a post for the last few days and have just been too busy, but I wanted to briefly mention that I’m moving to Seattle for a new job! I was out there last Thursday for an interview with Projectline, a marketing consulting firm, and they made me an offer on Friday. They want me to start on July 7th, so I quickly found an apartment, made some moving arrangements, and I’ve spent the last few days in Minnesota packing like crazy with my fiancee.
Projectline was one of a few firms that I was applying to—I also applied for several marketing, management, and even a few junior design positions in the online games industry. However, in retrospect, I’m actually pretty glad I didn’t find work at one of those companies (because I totally would have accepted). I’ve been focused almost entirely on online games for about a year and a half professionally and a lot longer as an enthusiast. Sometimes the line between fun and work gets pretty blurry when you’re constantly gaming and thinking about gaming for your next article or news story. I’m looking forward to having some clearly defined lines between work and leisure, and I think that gaming is going to become a much more casual activity for me.
So does that mean that I’m pretty much done gaming and writing about games? Heck, no. I’m a dyed in the wool geek, and I expect that I’ll probably be chucking polyhedral dice and playing online games for many, many years to come—just not as much as I do now. Since I enjoy writing about them, I’ll also still be serving up a few Massively columns per week after a short sabbatical while I get settled into Seattle and the new job, as long as the inspiration doesn’t run out (and it hasn’t yet). I also intend to keep doing what I’ve been doing here for so long.
I’m thoroughly relieved that the stressful job hunt period is over, and I’m looking forward to living in Seattle (I have a lot of friends there). It’s just going to be a crazy few weeks.

Congrats on the new job! You’ll like it here in Seattle. The weather is very moderate as it never gets too hot or cold. There’s a great gaming community here as well as lots of developers too. Only bad thing is the traffic.
Did I mention the great coffee?

Ah, so I know who to write next time my 360 breaks down!
If Alan Wake turns out to be any good, it will probably be a lot more enjoyable when you’re used to landscapes like that. It might bring the horror home.
