Lessons From a PvP Server
By Cameron Sorden | January 30, 2008
I’ve only been playing on a WoW PvP server for a few weeks, but I’ve already had a few harsh lessons burned into my brain:
- PvP while questing is a ton of fun, until a level 70 shows up (they really shouldn’t let someone more than 10 levels above you attack you unprovoked).
- Getting ganked while questing a few times makes you feel a lot less benevolent towards lowbie members of the opposite faction when you run across them.
- Stranglethorn Vale is a horrible, terrible den of pain and frustration– for both factions.
All in all, I’m having quite a good time. I love how unpredictable and exciting world PvP against people around your level is. It almost makes up for randomly getting ganked by people you can’t possibly fight back against. I did decide to stick with the shaman after all, and I hit level 40 tonight. That got me mail, dual wield, and my mount. Hurrah!

I swear I am the only person that enjoyed STV during the launch period. I ganked and got ganked, but more often than not I found myself killing gankers or getting into balanced PvP fights against like-minded individuals.
And that STV was WORSE than the current STV which has decent guards in Booty Bay and no fighting on the flying ships at Grom’Gol Base Camp.

You get a couple more good gank fests coming your way.
Eastern/Western Plaguelands.
And you’re gonna love Outland when all the epic 70’s show up on flying mounts because you are near their farming node. You’ll think STV was heaven.
